Effective August 10, 2026

freightpocalypse is a parody web app operated by Colin Petty Solutions LLC. This page describes what we do and (mostly) don't collect.

Short version: the lane checker stores nothing, quizzes store your anonymous answers, and the only personal information we ever hold is an email address you typed in yourself to get the newsletter.

What we don't collect

  • We don't ask for your name, phone number, or an account. The only personal information we ever accept is an email address, and only if you type one into the newsletter box yourself.
  • We don't set tracking cookies or fingerprint your device. We use Vercel Web Analytics, a cookieless counter that tells us how many people visited which pages and roughly where from. It doesn't identify you, and it can't follow you to other sites.
  • We don't persist the lane you enter. Pickup, destination, and equipment are sent to our server, used to compute a verdict, and discarded.

Quiz answers

When you finish a quiz, we store the answers you picked, the score, and the tier you landed in. That record has no email address, no name, and no identifier attached to it, and we don't store your IP with it. We keep it so we can report on what the industry as a whole answered, for example what share of people said their data lives in one person's head. Nothing in that record can be traced back to you.

The newsletter

If you enter your email address in the signup box, we store it along with your quiz score, tier, and answers, so the newsletter can be relevant to where you actually landed. We use it for one thing: sending you the newsletter.

  • We don't sell, rent, or share your address with anyone.
  • Every issue has a one-click unsubscribe link. You can also email us and we'll remove you.
  • Ask us and we'll delete your address and the record attached to it.
  • Delivery is handled by an email service provider that processes your address on our behalf and is not permitted to use it for anything else.

What is processed in transit

  • When you check a lane, the inputs are POSTed to our serverless function on Vercel. Vercel may keep short-lived request logs as part of normal hosting (no personal data, just standard HTTP metadata).
  • The verdict's GIF query is sent to Giphy to fetch a reaction GIF. Giphy receives the search term but not your lane data or any identifier from us.
  • When a shared link unfurls on LinkedIn, X, Facebook, etc., that platform requests our Open Graph image with the lane parameters from the URL. That's their request, not ours.

Children

The service isn't designed for or directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them.
